Default Hi All. New guy on the block

I just want to introduce myself. I had my first appointment with my PCP today to start the ball rolling on WLS. I don't think there will be any problem qualifying with my health insurance. Just the proccess. I have to see a Psychiatrist (already do) a nutritionist (October 25) and then what I don't know.
So about me. I'm a 55 yo man 333 today, been on every diet and lost and gained, like everyone here I'm sure. Tired of being fat and tired. Not fitting into my clothes unless I keep buying larger and larger. Right now I'm up to 3x or 4x shirts and a 51 waist. I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, arthritis in my knees, 2 back surgeries, asthma. Yikes.

Hoping to hear lots of good stuff on here to help me make the right decision.

My first question for everyone is "Did the surgery change you psychologically in a negative way at all?" My partner is worried about this, having met people at work who have changed a lot as people.
I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone.

Thanks for listening,
Bear

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I had a rough emotional week after the surgery. Granted i am only 3 weeks out, but when i came home i was very upset when everyone around me was eating. Now I feel great and eat whatevery one else is eating. Good Luck!

My husband said the surgery changed me for the better...said I seem less frustrated...less stressed...of course, I'm only 51 pounds down, but I already have SO much more energy!

Welcome aboard...I think you are making the perfect step in finding this support group....we're glad you're here!

Hi Bear, welcome to the boards...glad that you found us. This is a tough road to travel. I asked my husband if he thought that the surgery had changed me any and he said yes...I laugh and smile more than I did before the surgery. I suppose that it really depends on the person that the change is happening to. I welcome the change since it is prolonging my life with my family. Good Luck to you.

Welcome Bear. Great to have another man on here. I would have to say yes this changed me as a person. People at work notice and so does my family. And I would defintely have to say alot of this is a mind game. At least to me it is. Alot of it is all upstiars. I dont think they concentrate on that enough but that is my personal opinion. Every day its a different thing. But dont get me wrong Im so glad I did this and I feel so much better and thrilled with my newself. Good luck with your process.

Welcome Bear!! Congrats on deciding to go for it! You won't be disssappointed. As for personality changes -- most people I've seen here on the boards have had nothing but positive changes -- for the better. Some have had a hard time but that's what having a psychologist is all about and certainly joining a WLS group. Support is the key. If your partner is supportive and goes with the ups and downs in the early months -- I think you'll both be happy with the ultimate results! Good luck!

Hi Polar Bear. Im Vickie. What is it your partner is worried about changing? You personally or mabye the relationship you have? There is somthing I have noticed on here from the months I have been posting is that.... I find some settled in a relationship because they felt that is all they could do. It sad but very common in the overweight world. You will pick up some self worth with this surgery for sure. I personally I think never settled for a realtionship because that was the best I could do. I thank my Dad for that. I think there will be suttle changes but for the better. Just things you wish you could have done that you may attempt now. Your partner will do great if they ask you to go to group meetings. Make sure they tag along to learn all there is to know and what does change afterwards. The best of luck to you sweetie.
