| confused
I have been reading some of the responses and I am confused. First, I know every doctor is different when it comes to pre and post surgical protocols.
However, I am confused at how soon people can eat "normal" food. I have read where some people have eaten regular food as early as 3 weeks post op while others have had plans like my doctor's.
My physician has me getting prepared for 6 wks of protein shakes, then 6 weeks of pureed foods (baby food) then starting week 13, I will be able to start enjoying "normal" food again with protein always being the first thing eaten.
How soon did you begin eating normal food? I have to say food is on my mind as I am finishing day 2 of my liquid diet...5 days to go!

| Every doc is different. I was on liquids for two weeks then moved to soft foods. At 6 weeks I started meats and stuff.

Yeah, everyone is different. I was moved to full liquids before coming home, pureed after about 7 days and soft food after 2-3 weeks. I have always heard that the sooner you try stuff, the sooner your pouch adapts. There are some surgeons who have patients eating "real" food before they leave the hospital. I would do what your surgeon suggests if you can, but man, that sounds tough.

true indeed every surgeon is different. i think i was released on clear fluids. graduated to full on day 5. did one week on full and was asked to do puree by week 2 which didnt sit well with me at all. so i went back to full fluids for another week. then tried purees again week 3. i thnk "real food" was like week 5 or 6 i dont remember to be honest. but yes, i think just about every personon here had a different meal plan post op LOL.

I dunno honey. I will have to find my paper work. All im gonna tell ya is listen to them exactly. Each what they tell ya to until your able to eat normal foods. Evidently they plan this on how there patients do the best. Good luck with yoru surgery honey and I hope things go very well for you.

I left the hospital on full liquids for 3 weeks - I have been on puree for the past 3 weeks and have 3 weeks more - I don't have to puree eggs, ground beef, cottage cheese type foods - I have used protein drinks for a lot of my protein - the protein pudding the cottage cheese a lot as well as yogurt or cream of wheat - I had watermelon today with the cottage cheese and just mushed it - I have used applesauce and small amts of baked potato and refried beans - guess it depends on where you have your surgery or your Dr was trained

It doesn't matter what everyone did
you HAVE to do what YOUR DOCTOR'S PROTOCOL is for YOUR surgery.
Eac surgeon does this surgery a different way/style. You have to do what YOUR doc says for YOUR surgery.
