Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Don't give up. I weighted 373 when I saw the doctor for the first time and he told me that he wanted me to lose around 40 pounds before he is going to do the surgery. He said it was for my safety to lose the weight. Well I only managed to get off 36 pounds in 3 months and he said that is was just enough to do my surgery safely. I told him I do not know if I can do that in such a short time. So he send me to a weight loss doctor and he put me on a liquid diet for 3 months and I could also eat only 3 ounces of meat a day and all the veg. I want except for corn and peas. I really got creative with the veg. And with the 3 ounces of meat I made hotdishes out of veg. and hamburger. Like cabbage, peppers and hamburger and baked that till it was soft. But I fryed up the hamburger first, I usually made enough for 2 or 3 meals. That was so yummy and I also chopped up onions, celery, and peppers and I mixed that all together and then I sprayed butter flavored pam all over it and mixed it with a spoon and then I topped it with garlic powder, paprika and cajon powder. Then I baked it till it wa soft or until the edges got a little brown. That was soo good. Walden farms has a fat free, sugar free and gluton free products out there and the counts are all zero. I really like the products and I used alot on the lettuce and what I did sometimes I only put about a Tablespoon of my favorite dressing and the rest was walden farm dressings. They have a big variety of them. The weight loss doctor also gave me some of the optifast soups and a protein bar. That really helped with my food cravings. The protein bar helped with the sweet cravings. That is what I did for 3 months and the doctors said I did great for such a short amount of time.
One more hint if you eat jerky or make your own you can eat quit a bit becasue it is so light and it is filling at the same time.
On Sept. 10th I had my sugery and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. With all that weight gone I feel much more healthier and much more energy. It was a long 3 months for me but it sure was worth it. I finally have that full feeling without overeating. In fact food is not that important to me anymore. Sorry for such a long post. Good luck to you and don't give up.

They have medications for the ulcers hon. I hope your Dr placed you on it. While wating for the ulcers to heal you will get the extra pounds off. Im sure they told you what you couldnt have to eat while dealing with ulcers. Im sure more will be along soon to help advise you on that aspect. I wish you all the luck in the world with this. I was told I have to lose 18 lbs before surgery. 70 seems excessive to me but I know every dr is different. I just don't think I read anyone on here needing to lose that much. But do not be discouraged. And does your dr. do this surgery all the time?? And I guess if you are really upset you could get a second opinion. Perhaps another surgeon may have other ways of doing things. And yes to Mr Vickies post about having you on meds for the ulsers.

I know that you are feeling that it may never happen but please hear me when i say it will happen. If you believe it you will achieve it. I know alot of people who felt the same as you at this point of their journey for one reason or another, insurance denials, doctors orders such as loosing weight etc. I have to encourage you to not give up. It may be harder work for you but in the end it is so worth the battle. One step at a time, one pound at a time. Just brace yourself and try your hardest.
If you are not satisified with your surgeon and what he wants or needs from you maybe a second opinion is necessary. Just remember that the surgeon may have safty reasons for having you loose that weight. Your best interest and safety are the most important. Hang in there and keep venting and doing your best. My positive thoughts and prayers are with you....

of course i am not dr. but yes i think if you have ulcers that bad you should be on medications. they should also outline a mealplan if they you to lose that weight. dont be discouraged or depressed. you can do this. rememer this, so many people get told "no" flat out. in your case you just have a few steps beforehand and then its a go. consider that a yes and do what you need to do to get it all done. you will make it there.

Hun I know you have heard this over and over but it will work out. I have been around and around waiting so I feel your pain and so do a lot of other people on here. You can loose the weight. Just believe in yourself and take your meds for the ulcers. You stressing out and getting depress is not going to help your ulcers either. I know you are most likely saying well its easier said than done and you are so right but just remember we are all behind you and and here to support you 100%.

Hi Lisa, having two things that needs to be put under control is really tough.
I hope your surgeon referred you to a weight loss dr or a nutritionst who specializes in weight loss to help you with the pre op loss.

As everyone say, there are very good meds for ulcers, so start pronto on youre treatment, if you aren's on them already. Ulcers will get in the way of your healing from surgery, so you need to have them cleaned up first. It shouldn't take more than a month or two with the right meds.

Now, something else no one has yet said. Ulcers can get in the way of your weight loss.
One of the symptoms of ulcers is making you feel hungry and make you unconscioiusly eat more than you should. You do this automatically because the pain caused by ulcers go away when you put something in your stomach.
There are a number of post ops on this board who developed ulcers, and the symptoms they presented with was what to them was persistent hunger. One person wrote that she got this gnawing hunger that she woke up with in the middle of the night, and had to drink a glass of milk to sooth it, and she started to gain weight, and so was worried. I posted back for her to get seen by her PCP or surgeon ASAP because what she wrote to me sounded suspiciously like ulcer symptoms. Her PCP agreed, put her on ulcer meds while arranging for a scope, and almost immediately, she was feeling the difference, was able to get her eating back on track, and lose what she had gained through the episode.
So, you see, if you treat the ulcer as you should, you may find that you are losing again instead of stalling after the first 22 as you are now.

((((((HUGS))))))) Don't give up on yourself, don't give up on the procedure.
May your journey go well.
