Smile Just saying hi

I am new to this site and am just trying to figure it all out. I am going to be getting the gastric bypass surgery and my first consoltation appointment is in October. I still have a long road ahead of me. It will probably me a couple years yet. Looking forward to chating and asking questions.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board baynesbits!
Thank you for joining us, please make yourself at home and enjoy!
We have other Canadians here, and from their posts, you have a very long wait there, so long that some are having the surgery in the US rather than Canada. I hope everything works out well for you.
May your journey go well, ((((((((HUGS))))))))

hi baynesbits
so you are from canada also? whereabouts? i'm from Carleton Place Ontario, just outside of ottawa. Who is your surgeon and where are you having it done? i tried for 5 years to get the surgery in Canada and because of weight times i gave up and had my family dr. refer me to Dr. O'Malley in Rochester. It's a 6 hour drive from here but will be worth it in the end.
Hope to see you in chat soon, you'll like the people here,

great to see some one else from canada here, hope to hear from you in chat or posts soon.

Thumbs up

Bits!! Congrats on your big decision about having the surgery...this is such a huge Life Choice! You won't regret it...I haven't met ANY that do!!

I know I've heard from Birdie all the "run around" and "Red tape" you have to go thru in Canada. Is that why you think it will take so long?

I'm glad you are having your consultation now. One suggestion I have....I don't know if it will work for you there or not, b/c I don't know the Canadian Insurance details. But if I would've done this while I was waiting it would've shortened my waiting time.

Start all your prep for the surgery now....even b/f your consultation. What I mean by that is....
  • Start going to your primary family doctor for a monthly visit....
  • talk about your weight and your concern.
  • See if he will give you a Doctor supervised diet that you can work on b/tween now and October.
  • Don't miss a month of visiting your doctor. (here in the states - if you miss a month...it starts over from the new month...we have to go consecutive months w/o missing any!)
Visiting my family doc was the longest preparation to get approval for my surgery....If I would've started this, b/f my consult with my surgeon - I would've had an earlier surgery date. All is well though...and my surgery timing was perfect!

I am nearly 6 weeks Post Op...and doing and feeling great!!
