Unhappy Help - newbie at end of my rope

Hi all,

I need help ASAP Just subscribed. I live in a small town, no support groups within 100 miles. It's been 10 weeks since my surgery. I am so tired. I have had one complication after another and can't seem to get better. The surgery itself went well (at least according to the docs). But now I am lactose intolerant, cannot eat most preservatives and most important CANNOT take any protein supplements (tried most of them including isopure) - I just throw them back up! Of course my surgeon says it's in my head and my stomach follows my head so if I don't 'like' them, I'll throw them up. I have difficulty believing this as I actually liked the isopure. Don't know what is going on. Can't keep the supplements down either. Getting scared and somewhat hopeless. I had this surgery to recover my life - not lose it! I am losing weight alright, but not healthy. No energy to get out of bed most days. I'd rather be fat and somewhat heathly than thin and always sick and throwing up! I would very much appreciate any help y'all can give me. I am desperate.

Thanks much,

Lori

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'm so glad you found us. Sounds like you've had a rough time of it! You might want to read posts by Boots - she's had a rough start too! Doc is best to advise but I hope you feel welcome here, we're here to listen and hopefully help you get thru this. So, what are you keeping down? Are you able to do a soy product like Silk? I did ok with the EAS protein and they have a soy based product I think. At some point, I had trouble liking the protein shakes and ended up using Carnation Instant Breakfast. - not nearly as much protein though. Has your surgeon done any testing? Wishing you the best!

Honey I dont know what to tell you about the problems your having. First of all welcome to the boards. You HAVE found a great place for support.

My surgeon has asked me to get in what the protein drinks give you naturally. He means by the food itself. Now mind you I still cant take in very much but for me right now things are ok with my foods. I hope DOC can help some with this.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench.

Is everything coming back up, or just the protein shakes and stuff? Since you are 10 weeks out, you must be on soft foods at least by now. If you can keep food down, and only certain things that sort of gag your mind comes back up, then try adding some tasteless protein powder to your softer foods, that might help.
If just about everything keeps coming back up, then it's best to get seen by your surgeon, and have a scope done to rule out a stricture--the narrowing of the stoma, the opening in your pouch that connects to the bypassed small intestine. Strictures happen from time to time, many members on this board have experienced them. It is treated by slowly stretching the narrow opening while doing the endoscope on you (you will be asleep through the whole procedure).

If you are communicating only through phone calls and emails, insist on being seen by your surgeon. Distance should not be a deterrant in this case, you need it.

(((((HUGS)))) Hope you feel better soon, and may your journey go well.
