Hi everyone!
I just got home today after being released by the surgeons and staff at the hospital after surgery for gastric bypass on Monday in the early am. I am doing well and while still in pain from the areas where the drain and staples are, the pain is managed well by the pain meds they sent me home with. The surgery day was, as said prior to this by many, lost in the speed of it all. I went in, changed into those lovely and fashionable backless gowns we all know and love, waited in a chilly room for the nurse, answered a gazillion questions, was taken on the stretcher (this was when I had to say goodbye to my husband, Mike and mom) to the pre-op room. I met up with my surgeon, anesthesiologist and surgery team and was hooked up the IV and given the first portion of the anesthesia (to take the edge off any nervousness) then I'd be taken to the operating room, transferred to the operating table and then would be given the rest of the anesthesia when everything was ready. Afterwards, I would be put into the post ops area and then transferred to my room. Everything went to plan (except I have a smaller small intestine than the normal size and the surgeon had to do a bit extra manually for me), but it just took a bit longer than average...otherwise everything else was to plan. I did very well and was released this morning. I am sleepy from the pain medication, so will be turning off to get some undisturbed sleep. Any questions for me, please leave here and I will try answer when I log back on tomorrow.
