I am so shocked! My doctor is one of these holistic- natural-types and I thought she would say no, don't have RNY. In my head I thought she would say I was too healthy for it and didn't need it. She said it is a great surgery (her exact words) when done by the right and was really excited for me. She said my risk of complications is low, that my risk of a heart problem in the near future is greater. She also said this is a really good tool for helping me keep it off, knowing that I've gone up and down before, as it gives me a jump-start and the physical means to control things while I put the behavior modification part into action. She says I am no longer borderline hypertensive and she wants to start me on meds when I get the sleep study back. By then we will have the lab work back and she will sit down with me to work on the insurance criteria. She just looked at me and said, "I'm not going to talk you out of it." I feel so...weird. Excited, terrified, happy, sad at the same time. But if I really felt I could do it without this, I would have by now. It was just kind of hard to hear her say that I do. It is just painful to see and hear that I'm getting old, I'm fat, I have comorbidities (the bad part) but there IS something I can do about it (the good part). I told my friend about it (she is 69, just lost a bunch of weight, had a tummy tuck and is spending 2 weeks in Georgia with her internet boyfriend - she is such a trip - my pseudomom) and she is so excited and wants me to stay with her for a couple of weeks after surgery. This is really happening. I'm really taking the steps to get there. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Congrats Rachael for taking the steps to a healthier life. As for the height part, well hun I have found out when I loose weight I tend to loose an inch or so. It is weird but I do and I cannot afford to loose any height either. I am only 4'10 myself...lol |

I can definitley relate. I honestly didnt think my PCP was gonna support me on this want. BEING he didnt believe in diet pills and always told me to watch what i was eating like it was easy. BUT he referred me to the greatest surgeon! and WAS TOTALLY IN SUPPORT OF IT TOO. I AM SO GLAD YOUR JOURNEY is getting off to a wonderful start. GOOD LUCK

Thanks all of you! I know a few days ago I wondered if anyone has thoughts after surgery about "what have I done," but if I really think about it, every time I look in a mirror, feel out of breath walking up steps or an incline, hear that I now have hypertension and sleep apnea, I wonder "WHAT THE ____HAVE I DONE!!! I have felt like a failure for so long now! And fr1endly2, I know just what you mean. My doctor insisted diet pills didn't work and I would especially not like the side effects of Meridia. I was so shocked by her response. And BOOTS and tyraine, us short ladies RULE. Nothing will be hotter than us when we reach goal. Those tall gals, they always hate me (my boyfriend is 6'2"). And speaking of short, my son just walked in and I told him I'm really only 4'9". He said that makes me legally a midget. I told him that legally makes him a son-of-a midget ![]() ![]() Anyway, thanks all of you. I don't have to look in the mirror anymore and see a fat lady I don't even recognize looking back at me and wonder, "wow, what have I done." I'll see a pretty little healthy lady and say, "wow, what I have done!" |
