Hi everyone! Today I am one week post-op and I can tell you I am hugely miserable and questioning whether or not surgery was a good call for me. I've been so ill and sick to my stomach daily. Bad nausea kept me in the hospital an additional 3 days beyond the normal treatment time ... which left me victim to an upper GI series. So as if nausea wasn't bad enough, let's add a mass of barium to rot in my gut for kicks and giggles. (the upper GI was normal, fyi) Pain has been funny. I have a fairly high tolerance for pain and haven't taken pain killers at all since I'm home. My belly and incision are sore and stiff but not painful enough to require meds. What is knocking me down though is back pain. Any suggestions? I don't want to take the narcotics because I've heard they cause constipation issues at times and that end seems to be the only one operating correctly at this point. In addition, it appears I don't tolerate the artificial sweeteners well or the protein shakes (even carnation), the crystal light, diet sodas ... all of it turns my stomach immediately. I hope something improves because if I eventually dump because of sugar and can't tolerate artificial sweeteners ... seems like the most dull of all diets for me. I am also craving the oddest foods ... (for example) I want Lipton cup of soup??? I haven't had this since I was 11 years old spending the weekend with my Nana. I'm dying to mix up a cup, drop in a couple of saltines and go to town. I won't of course, but this is what food I'm thinking of lol. Anyway ... so on a more positive note ... I know I've done something really good for myself. My weight since having my last child has run so out of control that I really had no choice but to have surgery or face significant health risks in the very near future. I figured being around to see my 18 mos old's wedding one day was far more important than french fries and Friendly's watermelon sherbet coolers ... *sigh* I look forward to getting to know you all and am grateful for having found this website. Carrie

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. Congratualtions on joining the Loser's Bench. As for your woes...I think every single post op has had this. The first few weeks are the hardest out. Don't worry yet about not being able to get much protein in, but be sure that you get in enough fluids...sip, sip, sip. For your back pain, have you tried recliners and/or tummy pillows? The further out you are, the better you will start feeling. ((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

everything your going thru is normal. just be patient an it will all fall into place. This early out, just stay with those liquids and like doc said sip, the food thing is all a head game. Surgery doesn't fix that, you will have to fix that yourself. you are doing fine, keep us posted and good luck on your wonderful journey

I just wanted to offer up support. As they all have said, it is normal what you're feeling. I had tremendous back pain too. I believe all the gas settled into that area. You will start to notice a difference soon. Just make sure you walk and sip. Those are sooo very important at this stage. We're here if you need us!

Yup. I agree with everyone else. The 1st few weeks can really be a challenge but so can living inside a body a couple of hundred lbs. overweight. You will make it through this phase and soon will be amazed at how you feel and look. Hang in there and congratulations on being on the bench!

| Welcome Home! I felt this exact way. I begged my hubby to take me back to the hospital to get the surgery reversed. I hated the first 2 weeks after the surgery. Not only the physical pain, but the emotional pain was worse. Hang in there, it gets a lot easier. When you see yourself shrink, you will feel great
