THATs to cool u got to see your evaluation! As far as a letter from the regualr PCP doctor. YEP it was needed. I actually got my referral from my regular doctor to see the surgeon I choose for my surgery. I honestly thought he wasnt going to support my want for the surgery but he did. HE was never the type to prescribe diet pills just always said i had to loose weight. BUT when i told him I couldnt loose, and needed he was supportive. HE felt if it changed the quality of my life it was worth it. SO dont be surprised your doctor might surprise you as mine did and was supportive. IF not go to another doctor will you find one that will reccommend this many have done that as well. All the best

My pcp and i are the ones who decided i needed the surgery so he was very receptive. A letter from him was needed for my insurance and it seems to me that everyone i talk to needed one so it would be to your benefit to get one. You may want to call and see about getting it sooner than your appt. as the longet you wait for it the longer you wait for surgery. Good luck.

Thanks for the information. My doctor is overweight herself so not sure what her slant will be on surgery. I am 90# overweight and I am afraid she is going to say that she wouldn't recommend surgery unless I was higher than that. Is there a form letter out there anywhere on-line that gives some guidelines on what the letter needs to say? I know it needs to list co-morbidities, etc. Maybe she would be more willing to help if she had guidelines on writing the letter.

Wannabe, I would suggest you take a look at this book, written by Craig who hosts this site. I think you will find it informative and useful, as it has a point by point explanation. If your PCP is not agreeable, many people look around for drs who are sympathetic, and/or have post ops as their patients. Good luck in your search and journey, (((((HUGS)))))

ok, so my surgeon gave me a letter at my first appointment detailing to the letter the info that would be needed for my insurance from my pcm...okay so having said that of course it is the one page missing from my binder of info...lol. I know it said for a two year history of medications, dieting attempts, any weights, any co-morbidities, and anything else that may be weight related. I ended up not needing mine for my insurance company, but most do. I would go ahead and do your best to make sure that anything you think you MIGHT need, you start working on now. If nothing else it shows you are serious about this surgery and change and may make your doctors/surgeon more willing to help you where they can... just remember to be polite to those you need help from in the process...even if they screw up, cuz they might. Good luck. Janae |
