Default Hello everyone!

I hope I'm doing this right, it took me a while to figure out how to post. This is where I am so far: I've went to the informational seminar and have also had my first appt with my surgeon. On 6/14 I'll have an EGD and gallbladder sono. I've also had my psych appt. I'm getting anxious for the surgery, but also TERRIFIED! I've been lurking on this site for quite some time, just finally got up my nerve to join the family. You guys sound like a great bunch and really big cheerleaders for each other.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Thanks everyone. I am very comfortable with my surgeon and feel that I have a lot of head knowledge about surgery (I'm a nurse). I'm pretty nervous about the emotional aspect of it. I like to eat--eat when I'm happy, when I'm sad, nervous, bored, socially, etc. Sometimes I even eat when I'm hungry Hence, why I qualify for the surgery! That's the adjustment that worries me. By reading all the posts here, sounds like everyone has had their own demons in that department, but were able to work through them. So....I'm sure I will, too.

Default Welcome!

I understand your concerns. I'm a chef and that for me is kind of like an alcoholic being a bartender. I am 2 weeks out as of yesterday.
At first I was not hungry at all. I had an appetite, food dreams, smelled things that were not there. Once I got off clear liquids, (last Friday) and on to soft/puree I started feeling stronger and my pain seemed to let up. So far I haven't had a hard time at all following the docs. diet.
I am going to find a therapist who specializes in eating disorders because I know that I need someone to talk to concerning those habits and how to fill the void that they no longer fill, not to mention maybe finding a new career.
Right now I'm concentrating on recovering from surgery, walking and staing on the beam.
Good luck.

Your career choice and comparison made me giggle. I guess head hunger is something everyone has to deal with. Obviously, most everyone DOES deal with it very well, after reading all the success stories here. Seeing a counselor sounds like a good plan, I may continue with the one who did my psych work-up if I need to. And by the way, congraulations on your surgery!

Kat, if you are a chef, you could put that to use by devising recipes and menus that WLSers could use. A lot of people seem to have trouble finding pureeds and soft food that they can palate, with the changes in their eating and tastes (yes, it seems taste and liking which food changes drastically during the first few months). Heck, maybe you can even start a restaurant that caters to the needs of WLSers. And serve healthy food in small portions that non-ops can eat as well and learn what healthy eating and eating for health, in other words, food to live, and not live for food, is.
Of course, this is all provided you learn how to deal with head hunger, and the allure of food.

Good morning guys. I went for the second part of my psych eval yesterday. She wanted me to read over everything she had typed up to send to the doctor, which I thought was nice. Here's my question, did everyone's insurance require a letter from their primary doctor? The lady who does the insurance at my surgeon's office said that the insurance companies often don't tell you that it is needed, but won't approve surgery until they get one. I want to make sure I have jumped through all the hoops before we try for approval. Also, were all your primary docs supportive of the WLS? I'm not sure how mine will be. I have an annual exam with her in a couple of weeks, so I will need to broach the subject with her then. Thanks!
