Default confused and undecided

Hello Everyone. My name is Jennifer. I am currently in the process of losing my 5% bodyweight before surgery. I am supposedly on the "diet" I will be on after surgery{atleast after all is healed}. I originally wanted to have the gastric bypass..now I am thinking maybe the lapband would be better.I DUNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! i am SO SCARED if I do the gastric Bypass I will have regrets. It seems SO DRASTIC. I have been overweight almost my entire life. The only comorbidity I have is incontinence..and only when i laugh or sneeze...achhooo...........utoh!! LOL.. ANYHOW I would love some help in deciding what is best for me. ANY ADVICE would be appreciated!!! I have already lost 13lbs in 2 weeks on this "diet".. I have never had so much protien in my life!!! I go in for bloodwork, ultrasound of my abdomen, and an upper Gi on dec7th. I meet with the actual surgeon on Dec. 14th. I plan on discussing my fears with him. I am hoping for a Jan/Feb surgery date. Thanks for listening I have loved reading everyone's questions and responses,,what a great site!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

drastic times call for drastric measures LOL...that was my mantra....my husband voiced your concerns, but knew I had done all the homework and I was determined...past that, all he could do was sit back, watch and support me in the journey....NOW, he's so glad I did this...and he's so proud of my success!!!

I'm glad you are here...this forum will help you learn all aspects and base your decision on lots of realistic information! We've all been through it, and you will hear the good, the bad, the ugly, and the wonderful!!

Hun Type The Word Lap Band In The Search On Here And You Will Find So Many Posts About The Subject And What Others Think

I Personally Was Going In For The Lapband But Many Things Changed My Mind So I Ended Up Doing The Rny. You Dont Lose As Much, Very Easy To Cheat, Failure Rate Is High, I Really Dont Want Somthing Foreign In My Body, Always Having To Go And Have It Adjusted At The Doc Office Is Not Covered Ny Insurance, Most People Who Have Had The Lap Done Ended Up Having Surgery Done Again Because Of Their Failure And Had The Rny Done.

Good Luck To You

I was like Boots. i was intending and went to surgeon with the idea that I would get the band. But I agree with everything Boots says. In the end I am glad I did the gastric by pass. In the end its a decision you have to make for yourself. Good luck with this. I know its not an easy one. Its defintely a roller coaster ride this journey but oh so worth in in the end. Good luck.

Welcome Jennifer, I just want to say is do your reasearch first on both and talk to others that have had both done, I just had the gastric bypass and I stated out with the lap band, but because of an erroted eshopgus my surgeon would.n't do it and said he recommended to RNY I felt let down because of my decission. Well now I am glad that I did the RNY because I have a co worker who had the lap band and not to scare you but she has to watch everything she eats because is has problems with food sitcking and the throws up, SO do your research it sounds drastic but I think these days more and more Drs are doing RNYs and I think it is an individual decision. good luck in yours, these boards are wonderful. do alot of reading and looking. We are here for you and others.

Its your choice. Gastic or band. You know what I would personally do? Ask the Surgeon which one they think is better suited for you. I know with more weight the gastric seems to do better. In the end its your decision.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
As everyone says, you have to decide for yourself.
I also recommend you talk it over with the surgeon. Even if you don't have many comorbs, there may be something that will lead the surgeon to say which is better for you. It's best you decide by talking it through with your surgeon.

((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

thanks to all of you for all your advice and support. i had had my mind made up UNTIL I TOLD MY MOM I was getting it done!! Now everyone has jumped on the bandwagon reminding me that I will never be able to enjoy food again. Then there is the "Are you crazy?" I had felt good about my decision, and the reasons for which I was doing it. I now feel like I am back to square one. Anyhow, thanks again for the feedback. I now need to figure out how to make a profile!! I am soooo computer challenged!!
