Unhappy Hello

I am still in the thinking process about bypass surgery. I am 53 years old, 301 pounds, and have a mild form of muscular dystrophy. I know I need to loose weight, but am a little anxious about the surgery. I would like to hear from some people who have had it. And need some help answering some questions. Like, How does your body know when to quit loosing weight? How do you get into the mindset to not eat? I am sure you can think of other things to tell me. Please help me, I know I need to make a decision. Thanks

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

HI MURKAM!
Welcome to the boards its a great source of information
for you while beginning your journey.

My name is LISA, I had my surgery 1 year ago.
I started at 310 lbs and I am now 167 lbs and never
felt healthier. I had LAP RNY gastric bypass, had
no complications and i think for me this was the
best choice for me.
IF you have questions feel free
to ask away!
All the best in the decision makeing stages.

Welcome to the board, murkam, thank you for joining us.
I'm an MD, non-WLS, but around to answer general med Qs. Of course, you must go to your own dr for the final answer. Since you say you have mild muscular dystrophy, what does your neurologist say about bypass surgery? You'll have to do your own research and ask the opinions of the pros who can check you out presonally, but considering your basic medical condition, it might be that lap banding may be better for you since it is less invasive, compared to bypass. Just my two cents here.
Feel free to ask any Qs you have.
(((((((HUGS)))))))) May your journey go well.

Hi Murkam, Welcome!
I'm just starting on the journey as well, am hoping to have surgery by the end of summer. This site is a great place for information and incredible support. It is great that there are trailblazers who are leading the way and sharing their experiences with the rest of us. I am so grateful to them. Good luck on making the decision that is right for YOU.

LisaMarie, Your pre-op weight was very similar to my current pre-op weight. I'm 5'2, I was wondering if we are the same height? 131 seven months out sounds like a dream come true to me. Congratulations on such a huge accomplishment! I hope I can see that weight some day!

I love it when I am actually taller than someone--it happens so infrequently. Once, a long time ago, I went on NutraSystem and actually weighed 130. I can still remember how good I felt (physically and mentally). You must be so proud of yourself!
