Hi, My name is Gina. I am also new to this site, just joined a few minutes ago. Not real sure how to work all of this, but hoping to learn soon. I have went for the seminar, went for my consult, going for the psy eval tomorrow, and getting prepared for surgery. I bet you are so excited that you already have a date. I don't think that mine will be until late January or February. Hope it's soon. I wish you a lot of luck in your weight loss journey, and I too will need new ways to eat and cook. I wanted the gastric bypass, but with the concerns now that I hear, I am thinking the Lap band, anyone out there with information on the lap band verses the gastric would help me out a lot. thanks so much.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.

I have copied your post and split it from the original thread, and also removed the quote as you deserve to have the focus on you.

There are lots of members here who compared the pros and cons of lap band and RNY. Each have their reasons for deciding on whichever, and I'm sure you'll get lots of input.
You do need to talk to the surgeon of your choice about this, as sometimes, there will be factors that may make you a better candidate for one or another.
Also, insurance can be a deciding factor, as some insurance covers only RNY.

((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Hi Gina! Nice to meet you. You have found a great place for support. As far as the "choice" between RNY and the band, well, you'll just have to read, read, and read some more. And as someone suggested, talk to your surgeon. I didn't want to go the band route. You have wayyyy too much control with food. My highest weight was 296, so I had too much to lose to opt for the band (my opinion only). Plus, when I am having a craving for sweets, the fear of dumping is on my mind. And it stops me in my track. Whereas with the band, you don't dump, and I was too afraid of my self control. This is a personal choice. Just research as much as you can. And sure, there ARE risks with RNY, and it's a very scary thing, but I don't regret my decision at all. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your opinion. Believe me, this helps me so much. I too, have a big issue with too much room for food and believe that the idea of the dumping will help me stop the wrong foods. I need some kind of slap on the hand, and with the gastric I think that would be for me. Hearing my friends going for the lap band and their reasoning, I was leaning that way, but you are saying exactly what I know of me and this helps me confirm that I should go with the gastric. I'll let you know what happens and when my surgery is, please keep in touch with me. I appreciate your help. thanks, Gina
