Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Welcome to the boards inneedofhelp--great to have you here with us. I am still pre-op, so don't have any words of wisdom to share. The decision is a very personal one, YOU have to decide if it is right for you. I am convinced it's my last chance at getting my weight where it needs to be and KEEPING it there. After years and years of yo-yo dieting, I am discouraged and frustrated. Best of luck with what ever choices you make. wannabethin

5' 6" Height: | Hi Ineed, I am 3 weeks out yesterday. It took me 4 years to decide to go for it. At first I was going to have the lap band. I weighed 360 pre-op. I had never gone over 330 up until then. The last 12-15 lbs. were gained after my date was set. I decided to get the RenY because it was permenant and I was to a point that I had never been to - pretty much hopeless. I've been overweight since I was 3. I've gained and lost all my life but lately I just couldn't do it any more. I just kept gaining and gaining all the time being less and less active. Being so overweight has robbed me of so many things. I used to think that GBS was the chicken thing to do, that I should be able to have the willpower to do it myself. I remember being in my teens every summer planning how much weight I would loose so when school started I could look better. The diet always lasted a week or two. My whole life has been spent imagining what it would be like to be able to do and wear and be confident. When I was teased about being fat I always pretened not to hear. After all-I was fat. I felt it was better to be outwardly passive about it then draw attention to myself and make things worse. By having this surgery done I made a huge life decision that I will now have to live differently. Ya I will miss my best friend food. I even based my career around it. There will be lots of difficult things comeing my way. On the other hand, God willing and the creeks don't rise I will also be receiving some very SWEET things like, getting off my type 2 diabetes meds,(this happened already, 2 weeks ago) enjoying my life (can't wait to learn to scuba, tango, salsa, wear a shirt that ends above my hips) hopefully increase my life span. The stage where I'm at I can only tell you my thinking. This site is a wonderful, wonderful place. There is so much support going on here. Everyone has been so generous with their experience and love. Any questions you might have, you will get answers and opinions here. For me, it was a tough thing to do. By following through with my surgons plan, I am praying, hoping and waiting for a big ROI!!! Good luck and God bless. Kat |

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, inneed, thank you for joining us. Please make yourself at home. The only thing I can say is that whatever you decide to do, it is yours and yours only, decision. Are you enjoying your life now? Is there anything you would love to do, but for some reason have been unable to, till now? What options are there to resolve these reasons? May God bless you and guide you to your personal answers to the questions you have about the quality of your life. (((((((HUGS))))))))) May your journey go well.

| Newbie | Thanks everyone! Words do help, I'm just so scared that if I would have the surgery that I would be that % that die on the table. I would hate to leave my son that way, but sometimes I think that if I dont get the surgery that I'm going to die earlier then if I would have gotten it. I'm around 5'6" and weigh around 250. This is the biggest I have ever been, even when I was pregnant. Thanks again for the replies!!!!! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Inneedofhelp! THATS how i felt. SURE i was very worried of the surgery, complications and problems. At the time of surgery my kids were ages 2, 8 and 10. BUT i also knew that walking around at 310 lbs and so unhealthy was far more dangerous and i was a walking heart attack or stroke waiting to explode anytime. 1 year post op i am in TOTAL great health and wearing sizes and styled clothes that i never had the chance to wear in my life. SURe there been some rough patches on the journey but overall this was the best thing I did for me and for my children. ITS normal to battle all the things you are in your mind. HUGS!

| Newbie | Inneed, I'm also thinking about having the surgery. I'm 5' 5' and 250lbs as well. I've been thinking about this for a long time now and I'm almost to the point where I'm going to fill out the application and do it!! It's such a tough decision. I'm very much an emotional eater and my thoughts were what if I'm down, depressed or any other emotion and I can't reach for the food??? I know having the surgery isn't going to fix that, it's all mental and I need to deal with that. Where are you from Inneed?? I'm from Massachusetts. |

| Super Moderator | Sherri, welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. I hope you will find this a good place for info and support. If you understand yourself as being an emotional eater, then please give a thought to getting professional help in dealing with it. Start this as you take the steps in the direction of surgery, for it will be easier for you to deal with issues that come up post op, if you have a head start in dealing with your head-food issue (no pun intended). Every little step helps. ![]()
