| Scheduled Jan.11, need advice on vitamins and shakes
I am freaking out! I feel so unprepared even though I have been "preparing" for surgery for over a year. Anyone that is post op please help!
1. How long with lapro roux-en-Y did you stay in the hospital? 1 night? 2? I keep hearing "it depends" but I want to know for YOU what it was barring no complications, or even with.
2. What vitamins and supplements have you found are the best for you? Dosage? (vitamins and calcium for sure, and any others you take)
3. What high protein low sugar shakes do you like the best?
4. How much weight had you lost at 6 months? 1 year?
If anyone wants to swap email that is post op I could use some support the next 11 days with questions that pop up- I would be so appreciative. My Dr. is fine- but they are busy and have not been through it, I want someone that has really been there- I know everyone is different, but any idea from each person is so helpful!! I am 32 years old, in good health except obesity of course, and weigh 330 and I am 5'7. Anyone similar to me post op can fill me in too- would love to hear from you. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

| Hi! Wow, what an exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking time! You'll get lots of responses here and you're welcome to send a personal msg if you like - what I like about this site is no matter what time of day it is, there is typically somebody on here to talk to when you need to -- very helpful at 3 am when you're post op and your mind is going a million miles a minute! As for questions - 1- had surgery on Tues am and was discharged about 5 on Thursday. 2 - Post op vitamins were a bit tough - hated the liquid vitamins (still in my cabinet) but was able to do the gummy vitamins to get them in. calcium was a toughy because the pills are big - did do a liquid supplement for a while from a health food store - be sure to get calcium citrate, not carbonate (there's some discussion about what absorbs best) I now use the Citrical petites as they're easier to swallow at this stage. early on you will need to crush most likely. Also, I am taking Biotin daily, check with your nutritionist to see what doses are appropriate for you. (Biotin is for hair issues). 3 - as for shakes, I found I liked the EAS protein shakes from Wal-mart best - which is cool coz they're reasonably priced. 4 - I'm at just under 6 months and have lost 83.5 pounds. Had the same procedure as you - you'll want to walk, even just around your home, as you are able to postop to help get rid of gas from your procedure - walking is your friend (don't over do but it is important) and you'll get why you see sip, sip, sip so much you will need to really work at getting in your fluids and nutrition. I liked propel post op and I have tried the Special K protein water and liked it. New pouches can be fussy so dont be discouraged it'll take a bit to find out what yours likes/ doesnt like but over time things will normalize a bit. Congrats on your date and good luck - let us know what else you need

Hi newbie! We are close, I am 36, 5'7'' and started at 315. Had my surgery around 11 a.m. on a Wednesday, was released by 1 p.m. on Thursday, no complications. Clancy is right, walk, even if it is in the hallway at home, it helps, the nurses will have you up and walking in the hospital as soon as possible. I take the gummy Flintstones multi-vitamin, a chewable Calcium Citrate from GNC and a sublingual B12 I got at Whole Foods Market. My protein shakes are from GNC, they have a variety of flavors to choose from there, and they mix with water pretty well. I am just a little over 4 months out from surgery and have lost 68 lbs. Have gone from size 26 to a 16. Feel so much better and sleep so much better now. Hope my info helps, see you on the losing side!

welcome!! dont freak out, you are going to do just fine! I had my surgery on a friday and was out of the hospital on sunday morning, I had no complications, i did have my share of nausea but besides that all was good. I am 30 years old and 5'6" and started at 339 pounds. I am about 4 1/2 months out and 110 pounds down and have never felt better. I take a multivitamin and calcium with vit D, which i just get at walmart, I do not take any protein shakes for the most part, sometimes I will sneak in a carnation instant breakfast or a whey protein shake, which i also buy at walmart for like 15.00 for a huge jug, I compared them to the ones at GNC and it is way cheaper and actually had less carbs and sugars. well always feel free to ask whatever you like, good luck on your surgery, it is so lifechanging!
