Default New to this website

Hi everyone! My name is Esha and I am new to this website. A friend has recommended it to me so I decided to check it out. I have just been reading all of the posts and you guys all seem very supportive of each other which is what I need right now.
I have not had the surgery yet but it is scheduled for February 27, 2008.
I am going to do the laproscopic gastric bypass hopefully. I am currently undergoing the liquid diet to lose 10% of my body weight. It is EXTREMELY difficult. Has anyone struggled with the initial 10% weightloss ? Unfortunately last week was my first week on the liquid diet and I only lost 2 lbs. I ended up eating a meal at the end of the day almost everyday of the first week but so far this week I am right on.
I thought that I had done all the research necessary about both gastric bypass and the lapband but I find myself scared to death. I really don't have that much of a support system. My mother is a nurse and she swears up and down that I am going to die from this surgery. She also uses my children as a guilt trip " if you die, who will take care of your disabled child who needs you?" she always says. I hear this everyday so it is making me have second thoughts about having the surgery.
I am 316 lbs currently with diabetes, high cholesterol, and a whole bunch of other things. I have been on every diet, diet pills, and seen nutritionist with no success that is why I opted for surgery.
I also heard you'll lose your hair and nails and never be able to eat a piece of cake again. Nothing positive. Anyone have any thoughts? I would love to hear them.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the site! You know, there are always nay-sayers. But it is your choice. The positives totally outweigh the negatives! Hair grows back, in the long run, what worth does chocolate cake really have? I would never change my decision.

Rumors Thats All They Are To Scare People Hun. Yes Some Of Us Can Still Have Cake, I Have And This Has To Be The Best Thing I Have Ever Done In My Life!!!!!!!!!! I Had High Cholesteral, Diabetes Among Other Things!!!i Also Have A 19 Month Old Baby At Home But My Doc Told If I Didnt Do This Surgery I Wouldnt Be Around For My Daughters Wedding. After Very Careful Thought And Discussing W/my Husband We Thought I Would Do My Daughter More Good If I Were Healthy, Alive And Living Longer Than Over Wt And Counting The Day Till I Would Die. I Couldnt Do Any Activites With My Daugter Because I Was Heavy And Out Of Shape And It Wasnt Fair To Her Or My Dh. If I Didnt Do The Surgery I Would Not Be A Happy And Healthy Person Today!!!! Hun This Is Your Choice And Your Choice Alone You Do The Research And Dont Let Other People Scare You With Rumors!!

We are all here together, and can answer as much as we can for you......so ask away.......take care Kathy

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Ask plenty of Qs, do a lot of search and research.
Go thoroughly through the Stupid Questions section of this board, you'll se plenty of Qs asked by other people, and chances are, you have the same Qs, too.
As for the pros and cons, you are the one who has to weigh them, and decide.
With ANY choice in life, not just this surgery but whatever, there always will be minuses as well as pluses. The trick is to make the choice where the positive outweighs the negative for YOU, not for someone else.

(((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Welcome. I'm nervous too because my surgery is next week and all these crazy thoughts are coming into my head. But I come on here and look at these beautiful ladies and think - how can i NOT do this for myself and my son. When I first told my dad, he instantly told me about someone who died having it done and was really nervous. Now that he knows I've lost 30 lbs, I can hear in his voice how excited he is for me. Name ANY surgical procedure and somebody has died from it, it's a fact of life - but ultimately you need to make the decision.
I have 5 days left of my liquid diet pre-op to lose my 10%. I'm there, so any extra is a bonus. I didn't eat any food, so maybe that's why the scale didn't move much last week. This week with you sticking to it it should fly! Good luck!
P.S. I'm a nurse too.

Hi Esha,
It's Amina.
I'm so........ glad you decided to check this website out!!
The best support ever is found right here!!
Hey 2 lbs is better than NOTHING or even worse gaining!!! Maybe letting your mom come on & look at some of the pics & healthy changes these folks have been able to accomplish all from the weight loss surgery can be an option????
ASK, ASK away.. And read all that you can...
Best place I've found!!
My family thinks I'm addicted to the site, but it keeps my mind off the food when everyone else is busy eating!!

LOL,
