| Newbie | Hi everyone I live in the Toronto are and could use some advice or help. I am 5'2 and I am close not far from 200 pounds. I have battled my weight for s long as I can remember. No one in my family is heavy. My father was heavy until he had a kidney transplant. I have tried many programs and weight loss perscriptions, even the non perscription kind. I often suffer from high blood pressure and recently experiencing heartburn. and acid reflux. I am not fully active because I have problems with my feet that cause a lot of pain which have attampted to be repaired. About 2 years ago I injured my knee. My doctor told me to do isometric exercises but they made it worse. My doctor suggested if I lost the weight my knee and feet would not hurt so much. Gee I can't seem to loose it. The only way I seem to loose the weight is by almost starving myself, other wise I just gain and gain. The last time I say my doctor and brought up the issue he told me "it is not that I am heavy, i am short and don't carry it well" and I will regret it. He does not feel that it is my solution, the surgery that is. I know that my weight affects my self confidence as well as my self esteem and my image of myself. I hate shopping for clothes becasue I can't get clothes to fit, and I avoid cameras becasue I hate the way I look. Knowing that my doctor does not support it, and I need his support to get OHIP to cover it otherwise I can't afford it. My doctor needs to refer me to a specailist regardless. There must be away around my doctor so I can find a doctor who can help me with this. I believe after doing my research that this would be a perfect solution for me. If anyone might know of someone or offer any suggestions or advice that would be amazing. ADRisen |

| Super Moderator | Hello, welcome to the board, ![]() Thank you for joinng us, and I hope visiting all the forums will help you find your answer--the answer specific for you. From the drs' point of view. First, do you know the basic criteria for WLS surgery? The US NIH's criteria is the one in world wise use at the moment. I have written about it in this thread if you have not yet read it. Your present weight puts you at the lowest borderline for surgery. If you are in the 190s, your BMI is just under or around 35, so, that will have to be taken into account. I would also suggest you read the "Want to talk non-op?" thread. This was written by someone who lost over 150lb without surgery, and is successful in keeping it off. Please do a lot of research on the surgery first, read everything in the home site of this forum as well as the posts in this forum, and other sites as well. The surgery is only a tool, and whatever method you choose in working with your weight issue, you will have to reflect on your relationship with food and work on that as well, for a successful surgery, or a successful non-op journey. You may feel like you are right now, but please don't hesitate to post whatever Qs you have on your mind, I am sure you are going to get many resposes for this post alone from the pre ops and post ops. Good luck on your search and research for better health. ![]()
