Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi, My name is Angie. I'm soooo excited after seeing how great you all look. You all are a great inspiration for what I have to look forward to. I just got my preapproval for surgery this week, just got all my appts. set up. So... looks like the next 3-4 weeks I will be kept really busy. Hopefully I get my full approval for surgery within the next couple of months! I've got a coulple questions.. did anyone have to go through a psych. evaluation? If so, what should I expect? Did anyone else have Blue Cross Blue Shield? If so, what was the time frame for your surgery once you completed all the classes and tests? I look forward to continue hearing everyones success stories, thanks for all the info everyone gives on this site, it's awesome!

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. Check out the Preparing for Gastric Bypass Surgery forum, and the Gastric Bypass Insurance forum, I think you'll find threads and posts there that answer some of your Qs. Most insurance required pre op pych evals, this is to ensure you and them, that you are ready for, and can deal with, the mental trip that this surgery can give you while you are adjusting, not only body, but in mind, to the new lighter and smaller you. (((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | this trip is emotional, and they want to make sure you are making the decisions for the right reasons...I had to take 2 separate tests (which I passed with flying colors)....and an hour consult! They don't want anyone going into this who is already emotionally unstable! I was self pay, so I can't help with the insurance thing....but welcome aboard...we're glad you're here! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Yes We All Have To Go Thru The Phsyc Evaluation And All Other Tests Required. From The First Day I Saw My Surgeon To The Day Of Surgery Was All Within A Month!!! But I Rushed All The Doc Appts By Lyeing To Them About When My Surgery Date Was. I Told Them The Surgery Date Was Like In 2 Wks So They Would Give Me The Soonest Appts So I Could Get All Of Those Requirements Out Of The Way And My Ins With Bc/bs In Ny Thru Suffolk County Was Approved In Less Than 24 Hr. But Getting You Surgery Date Has To Also Do With The Surgeons Office And When He Will Be Available To Do The Surgery And Also How Fast The Office Staff Works To Get Your Approval. Good Luck Hun |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Welcome! I think that every doctor does things differently, but maybe you could ask one or two other people who go to that office. Maybe they have a support group? The nurses in the offices are usually nice, they can answer stuff too. Like Doc said, there's lots of posts on here about time lines and insurances. You'll find a lot by reading the different topics and the most important ones are marked with a 'push pin'. It can be time consuming, but just reading through ALL the old posts can answer countless questions - even ones you didn't know to ask!!!! I saved every recipe I've found to my micrsoft word and I have over 40 pages now!!! I have MVP and the way my docs office works is they send you all the dates for your tests (inc. one psych eval) along with surgery date. They send for approval a couple weeks ahead of time and you're set! Good luck!!!!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Yep, psych eval is a mandatory.. I think basically, they are monitoring to see if you have other coping mechanisms in place to deal with stressors besides the use of food!! Also since this journey will be an emotional rollarcoaster, they say, you must be stable mentallly to deal with these issues. I personnally saw my own psychologist, I'm not yet approved, so I hope they(ins) will except that letter of referral.... good luck & welcome aboard!! LOL, |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi and welcome. I have Blue Shield and after seeing the Nutritionist, Physc, and my PCP, the surgeons office submitted the paperwork and I was approved withing 24 hours. The Physc is to make sure you are mentally able to handle this AND that you are doing it for the right reasons. I have an Aunt who has been trying to get approved for 2 years now, and the Physc eval always makes it a refusal! But she thinks that if she has the surgery and loses weight Mr. Right will notice her and she will be instantly happy forever, and that is not a reason to have the surgery, so they always refuse her.
