Hey everyone! Im going for my consultation on Tuesday the 12th! I just wondered if some of you could share your experience of what yours was like so I know what to expect a little better!!! They said it would be a group session for 60 minutes and then he would meet with everyone one on one! If you could just share a little bit that would be awesome!!!!

I wonder if the group session is kinda like the seminar I went to. At the seminar, the surgeon shared a slide show on topics from obesity to the surgery and also pictures of all of the staff in his office. After the seminar anyone who was interested was incourged to call for a consultation. At my consultation, I filled out some paperwork with the usual questions regarding health and diet history. Then I met the surgeon, he asked a few questions, felt my liver and intestines, gave me a checklist of other things I had to get done before they sent everything to the insurance for acceptance.

I'm like BOOTS,I had a private consult first,to meet him and his nurse,she gave me all the paperwork and the "things"to do list. I had a few group meetings such as the gym/exercise consult,the NUT consult and the peer groups. It was alot to absorb but they should help you along the way....ask questions if you are unsure of something,you should be completely comfortable with this journey. Good Luck!!! Kathy

When I had my consultation, I met with the head nurse and then the doctor. The whole thing lasted about an hour. They sent the required paperwork prior to the appointment, so that was all set. Then after the consultation, they sent a letter with all my scheduled appointments. I was extremely nervous before my consult, but the nurse calmed all my fears...

At my consultation, it was myself, my mother (who came to hear about the surgery since she is not really supportive of this surgery) and another prospective patient. The 3 of us met in a seminar room (kind of small with about 10 chairs) and Dr P explained the various surgeries, the history of GBS and it's predecessor, etc and her background. Then I had a private consult with her which was for about 10-15 minutes.

The seminar I went to was 4 hours long...then if you were interested, you had a one-on-one with the surgeon.....the initial seminar was VERY informative...it included the psych they used for evaluations, the bariatric coordinator and the surgeon himself! He passed around pieces of the lapband stuff...the cartriedges they use to inflate the cavity for lap procedure...it was probably one of the best seminars I've been to!

congrats!! i went to what was called a seminar, it was an informative session on the different kind of surgeries, it was pretty interesting.
